The Sonar team is proud to announce Sonar version 2.6. It is a tradition that we publish screenshots along with such an announce but for this one time, as the innovation is not “showable”, we will make an exception !

Prior to 2.6, Sonar had a very tight link with Maven because we leveraged Maven technology at project inception to get a Bootstrapper that was cheap to implement and simple to use. Indeed, you could analyze a project by running “mvn sonar:sonar” on any project, just having to write a small pom.xml to point source directory on non-maven projects. This kind of dream for Maven projects was sometimes considered as a nightmare by the ANT guys due to the pre-requisite of installing Maven. Read the rest of this page »
After an initial attempt that ended up posting on what was accomplished last year, time has now come to discuss the plans for Sonar in 2011 and the associated roadmap !
In 2010, Sonar has progressively become a “must have in software factories” as are already Jenkins, Jira, Nexus or Subversion for instance. With Sonar, a quality platform can now be considered as a commodity which can be installed and used by everybody with only little investment whether it is time or money. We will still focus our effort in 2011 to increase the value of the platform and make teams capable of continuously assessing and reimbursing their technical debt even easily than today. My initial intention was to write a post on the plans for Sonar in 2011 and the associated roadmap. I started by quickly listing what was achieved in 2010. The Sonar team is proud to announce version 2.5, the first release of year 2011 !
As usual, this new release includes numerous improvements, bug-fixes and also interesting new features. Its main objective is to provide better control on the technical debt evolution. Prior to version 2.5, Sonar was really useful to assess application’s technical debt but was not so handy to manage evolution over time. This is an important step toward full support of Continuous Inspection as focus should be first on making sure no one is adding to to the debt before starting to reimburse it !
Here is presentation of the main features in screenshots : Read the rest of this page »

A few weeks ago, Evgeny described how Sonar can be used with its JaCoCo plugin to measure code coverage by Integration Tests. By adding this new feature to Sonar, Evgeny has actually done more than closing the most voted issue in Jira at the time : he has made a first baby step towards closing some gaps that exist in the world of Software Quality.
